Many thanks for your response which provided a lot of insights.

However, I still did not find a simple instruction on how I should go about switching from POP to IMAP on my iOS iPhone SE. To the best of my understanding I am using the native mail app for iOS.

I tried simply to inactivate my current POP-based access to my Hotmail on my Iphone and to add a new account, but it seems to automatically hook me up to the POP-based access leaving no option to enter the IMAP-based access. Although I found my IMAP settings by means of one of the articles you provided.
